2005. ACCUSATION. TRIAL.
REFUSE FROM PLEA BARGAINING
On November 16, 2005, at 13.00 Tamaz Vashakidze was called in for interrogation at the procurator's department of Tbilisi as a witness.
After several hours of interrogation he was accused of the crime (he had never committed), and thus he becomes an accused.
Further on he is offered a plea bargaining: he is required to admit guilt and to pay a pledge equaling 100.000 Laris to be discharged. Tamaz Vashakidze repels categorically the accusation and refuses from plea bargaining, saying that he can't afford to pay such unjustified and huge amount, but he is ready to co-operate with investigation, and signs the recognizance not to leave, thus accepting house arrest.

The Resolution about attraction to judicial responsiblity with autograph of Tamaz Vashakidze where he declares his categorical disagreement with the indictment: page 1, page 2, page 3.
Tamaz Vashakidze asks to take into account, that he is the only breadwinner in the family (there are three children aged respectively 3 y.o., 2 y.o. and two months old), and in the event of the arrest his wife and his children will be deprived of means of living. The procurator's department and later the court disregard this request.
On the same night, at 10 p.m. he is transferred by force to the City Court of Tbilisi under escort of investigator À. Mgeladze, where the court binds Tamaz Vashakidze to pay the above-mentioned pledge within three-week period, otherwise, according to Mgeladze, he will be imprisoned, his wife will be deprived of the apartment, and the children will be taken to the asylum. The threat of imprisonment, according to Mgeladze's hints, in fact, means the threat of physical violence.
